Botox for eyebrow lift in Edmonton

Injecting Botox in the brow area helps smooth and lift the surrounding skin and can help fix droopy or uneven brows. This treatment gives an illusion of a youthful look by opening up the brow area slightly. Many people have testified that Botox has made their brows look symmetrical. Botox can also transform how the brow sits, without undergoing cosmetic surgery. Botox will help brows sit uniformly along the brow bone and can help define and lift the shape of brows.

Dermal fillers

Placing dermal fillers beneath your eyebrow can support and elevate them. Typically, only half to one syringe of dermal fillers is needed in this area. Fillers also soften your eyebrow’s skeletal orbital rim to give a more youthful and soft look. Normally, upper eyelids droop from the exterior half first, making the middle half appear hollow. By using fillers to fill the mid half of your brow, this evens out the look of your upper eyelid and lessens droopy eyelids. The recovery time from dermal fillers depends on the degree of correction. For some, recovery takes a few days, with no downtime required.

Lasers for eyebrow lift in Edmonton

A laser can help rid skin of wrinkles and lift eyebrows. Also, the use of lasers is an excellent way to achieve great results without the dangers that come with eyelid surgery. The use of lasers can be an excellent alternative if you don’t want to go under the knife.

What are the pros and cons of getting an eyebrow lift in Edmontonthrough laser?

Using laser has several advantages. First, there are no adverse skin reactions and no large or small incisions made to the skin. This, in turn, means no swelling or bruising. Laser does have less side effects, than plasma pen) including scarring and pain during treatment. It may be expensive.

Plasma pen for eyebrow lift in Edmonton

The Plasma Pen procedure is an advanced and non-invasive lift treatment. It firms

and lifts the skin with fast results that will improve within eight weeks. In essence, the plasma pen functions by using the voltage in the atmosphere between its tip and the normal gasses released from our skin to build a plasma charge. This then creates a little electrical arc and immediately contracts the eyebrow area. The tissues pull in and tighten, giving you a youthful and elevated eyebrow. As collagen starts to form, crusts develop and peel off. The result is tighter and smoother skin – which occurs within days. However, do not confuse plasma pen with blood plasma, the plasma pen procedure does not involve blood.

Laser hair loss

Laser hair loss treatment in Edmonton

Hair loss can affect anyone, regardless of age or gender. Reasons for hair loss include genetics, hormonal imbalance, vitamin deficiency or the shortening of the hair follicle’s life cycle. The innovative Smooth Mode from Fotona Er-Yag laser has shown significant results as a hair loss treatment.

Why do people lose hair?

We lose hair every day, it is normal. On average, we lose about 100 hair follicles from the scalp every day, which is 0.1% of our total hair. During its life cycle, a hair follicle goes through three defined phases: The anagen phase (the growing phase) that lasts 3-5 years, the Catagen phase (short transition phase) that lasts about 10 days and the Telogen phase when the hair falls out. For most healthy people about 90 percent of their hair follicles are in the Anagen phase.

Different laser, different results

The difference is similar to the difference between getting warm and getting burned. The laser hair removal delivers a strong pulse of energy to burn the dark hair follicles. Fotona Er-Yag laser works differently as it is not absorbed by the hair follicle colors, but by water in the scalp. Higher temperatures increase blood flow and help hair follicles grow faster and stronger.

How does laser hair loss treatment work?

Foton Laser delivers nourishment to the hair follicles and deeply stimulates the root of the hair at the cellular level. The boost of laser light revitalizes and enlivens the weakened hair follicles. Moreover, it stimulates growth factors, reversing the thinning process, and helps restore and extend your hair’s growth natural cycle.

What results should I expect from laser hair loss treatment?

The results are fuller scalp with stronger and thicker hair. Most of the clients start seeing results after the fourth session. However, it may vary considerably from patient to patient.

Does Laser work for all types of hair loss?

It is important to understand there are many causes of hair loss, and laser treatment is not a cure. For example, some cases of hair loss are directly linked to hormonal imbalance and autoimmune diseases. In this example, laser treatment will help reduce the hair loss and restore the life cycle for the follicles, however, it will not eradicate the cause of hair loss.

How many laser hair loss treatments do I need?

We recommend one session (usually take thirty min) every two weeks for a total of eight-sessions, followed up with one session every following month.

Can I combine laser hair restoration treatment with other treatments?

Yes, we recommend combining the laser restoration therapy with Rich-platelet Plasma (PRP) injection. We also recommend using some collagen products and multivitamins compounded, especially for this treatment.

after one session of hair restoration
after one session of hair restoration

How much does laser hair restoration treatment cost?

The price of four sessions of laser hair restoration is $600. If paid individually, the session will cost $200. Our ultimate hair restoration bundle is another option. This includes: one session of PRP injection + 15 min of red light therapy + four session of Fotona laser for $1200

Is laser hair restoration safe?

Yes, it is. The scalp is tender and tight for 24 hours after the treatment and it is recommended to avoid sun exposure and water for 24 hours after the treatment

under-eye wrinkles

Source: Albany Laser & Cosmetic Centre

Starting in the late twenties, most of the women get concerned about the under eyes wrinkles. The skin around the eye is thin and delicate. Therefore it ages faster than other facial areas. Most people rely on creams or oils to get a tighter, wrinkle-free skin under the eyes. Even though these topical preparations are expensive; however, their results are disappointing.

What is the difference between eye bags, darkness, and wrinkles

Having Eye wrinkles at an early age is considered a risk factor for eye bags. However, we see lots of clients complaining about eye wrinkles without having eye circles or bags. It is harder to treat eye wrinkles by itself without the eye bag. Moreover, we see some clients who have wrinkles and pigmentation around the eye. Therefore, Dr. Kamal (Pharmacist with Ph.D.) usually differentiate between three different types of under-eye fine wrinkles

  • Fine wrinkles alone
  • Wrinkles with pigmentation
  • Fine wrinkles with eye bags
  • Wrinkle with eye bags and dark circles

Treatments available for under-eye wrinkles

The treatment protocol depends on patient concerns. In other words, Dr. Kamal will design a personalized protocol to help to target your concern.

Under-eye fillers

Another synonym for the under-eye fillers is tear trough fillers. We usually recommend under-eye fillers when the client shows signs of losing volume in the orbital cavity. You can read more about this type of filler here

Under-eye Botox

We use Botox in some cases when the wrinkle is alone in young clients with dynamic lines, which appear with smiling. Usually, these lines are part of the crow feet and Botox will be good enough to correct them.

Fraxel Laser

We are the only laser center in Edmonton who offers laser for the ocular area. We use special intra-ocular shields to provide safety for the eye cornea and retina. We recommend using Fraxel laser with all other treatments. Moreover, Fraxel treatment helps with the droopy upper eye-lid and saggy skin under the eye.

Under eye wrinkles fillers Botox
Under eye wrinkles correction with fillers and Botox
How does Fraxel laser works

Fraxel is a color-blind, microscopic, fractional laser, so it uses water as a chromophore. It means that we can use it on all skin types. Fraxel is a microscopic laser that goes into your skin to stimulate the growth of elastin and collagen. In essence, it fades brown spots, smooths eye wrinkles, and scars that arise as a result of photo-aging. Contrary to fully ablative lasers, Fraxel is a fractional skin resurfacing procedure, which targets a section of the skin simultaneously. Also, the Fraxel laser treatment works by rejuvenating the skin from inside.

Is laser safe for the eye?

While administering the Fraxel laser treatment on patients, intra-ocular corneal eye shields are used to protect the eyes from laser rays.

Intra-ocular corneal eye shields are eye-shaped shields made of surgical grade stainless steel. They come in different sizes and are used to protect the patient's eyes during laser treatments around the eye region.

Is Fraxel laser safe after fillers?

We recommend to space fillers injection and Fraxel laser treatment by at least three months. Therefore, we advise our client to do Fraxel laser first, followed by Fillers or Botox injections.

To read more about Fraxel before and aftercare, downtime, and possible side effects, please click here

What does the fine wrinkle treatment look like?

To treat fine eye wrinkles using the Fraxel laser treatment, the patient usually takes about three rounds of the treatment.

During the treatment, the doctor administers a slight dose of anesthetic to the patient while also numbing the area of treatment.

The entire procedure lasts for 20 to 30 minutes, after which the patient can go home. After the treatment, the patient might experience bruising and slight swelling. These side effects would go down after a few days.

Fotona Laser 4D facelift in Edmonton

Fotona Laser 4D Facelift-Stop Aging And Rewind Time

Aging. We can’t stop it. We can’t turn back the clock. However, we can do something to slow it down with the Fotona Laser. As we mature, our skin loses elasticity and we begin to notice our skin becomes loose and droopy. Our jawline sags and we develop wrinkles and fine lines.

What can we do?

Surgical facelifts are a thing of the past. These days, no one wants to experience the trauma of going under the knife. The alternative? Needle and knife-free laser treatments. Lasers stimulate collagen production to improve the texture, laxity, and appearance of skin. The best thing is that you still look like you, just a smoother, more youthful photoshopped version.

The Fotona Laser 4D facelift

This facelift is a world-class treatment for skin rejuvenation and resurfacing. It addresses the signs of aging and targets imperfections painlessly and quickly. It used different Yag Laser wavelength (Erbium and ND-Yag) with different pulse width, pulse duration, and modes to treat and heal multiple layers of skin. This laser system provides effective treatment to different skin issues such as skin fine lines, deep wrinkles, and pigmentation.

BEFORE & AFTER PICTURES

Steps of a Fotona Laser 4D facelift:

  • Smooth® Mode

Targeting the nasolabial folds, this oral treatment consists of gentle “bulk-heating” to stimulate collagen. This collagen stimulation results in a subtle plumping effect, much like a filler.

  • FRAC3® Laser Rejuvenation

A fractionated laser targets deeper imperfections in the skin. It focuses on age spots, sun spots, and veins. This process restores a youthful texture to the skin.

  • PIANO®

The third step involves bulk tissue heating to promote skin elasticity and tightening.

  • SupErficial® Mode

Lastly, a controlled light skin peel with the cold laser removes dead skin cells. This process reduces imperfections revealing brighter, healthier tissue. We refer to this model as a cold ablation laser.

The benefits

The Fotona Laser 4D laser treatment is quick and convenient and people can receive treatment during their lunch hour. There are no injections or anesthesia and the procedure is painless, non-invasive with no downtime.

Who is a good candidate for Fotona Laser 4D Laser treatment?

The Fotona Laser 4D laser treatment is suitable for all men and women of all skin types.

Aftercare

The aftercare for this procedure is minimal and straightforward. Keep your skin clean and hydrated with moisture-rich creams. Always protect your skin with hypoallergenic sun protection.

Are there any possible side effects?

People can expect a little redness, swelling and slight irritation. These effects will disappear after an hour or two.

What are the expected results?

People can expect to see immediate results after just one treatment. The treatment will result in tighter skin, increased plumping, and elasticity. For best results, treatments should be performed every four to six weeks. Once a series of treatments is completed, the results can last for up to one to two years.

Snoring Treatment

Laser Snoring Treatment in Edmonton

Snoring is caused when the muscles of the neck and throat relax during sleep. Throat structures, like the jaw and the back of the throat tend to get in the way during sleep. Things like alcohol and drugs can cause these muscles to relax even further. Obesity is an increasingly common cause, as fat is deposited in the neck and throat. Sleep deprivation can cause one to “sleep hard” and cause an over-relaxation of the throat.

Apnea happens when breathing stops during sleep. Many of the same symptoms that cause snoring can be responsible for sleep apnea. The Mayo Clinic lists three primary causes of sleep apnea:

  1. Obstructive sleep apnea, the more common form that occurs when throat muscles relax
  2. Central sleep apnea, which occurs when your brain doesn't send proper signals to the muscles that control breathing
  3. Complex sleep apnea syndrome, also known as treatment-emergent central sleep apnea, which occurs when someone has both obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea” (1)

This can cause high blood pressure, daytime sleepiness, type 2 diabetes, liver problems, and much more.  In short, restful sleep is important for your overall health.

snoring causes

The typical solution to sleep apnea and snoring is a CPAP machine. This is a machine that gently forces air into the nostrils to prevent snoring and sleep apnea. Most are machines that sit on a tabletop with a couple of hoses running to a mask that the wearer puts over his or her nose and/or mouth. In fact, they look a bit like a home-use scuba machine.  The problem that many snorers have is that the CPAP machine is restrictive, bulky, and unattractive. There is a consistent need for other solutions.  A new solution in Edmonton that can keep one from needing a CPAP machine is laser snoring treatment.

Laser Snoring Treatment

This laser snoring treatment, called NightLase, uses a safe medical-grade laser to heat the collagen in the throat gently. After three treatments over 6 weeks, the tissue in the throat tightens.

snoring-anatomical-features

This helps to eliminate snoring and sleep apnea. Getting a good night’s sleep is about not being interrupted by apnea. Apnea causes the sleeper to startle awake since they suddenly can’t breathe.  This new snoring treatment, laser snoring treatment, provides patients with a comfortable, simple, non-surgical procedure. The effect lasts for up to a full year.

The laser first warms the tissue. Then the laser light strengthens the tissues. This causes the tissue to tighten up out of the way of the breathing passage. Snoring is reduced, as well as sleep apnea. Because the process is pre-programmed into the laser, there’s no chance of overuse or damage.

Safe, Effective Snoring and Apnea Treatment in Edmonton

As mentioned above, CPAP machines are effective but unwieldy. Other often involve medicines or chemicals that can have side effects. Sometimes, surgical removal of the obstructive flesh causes infection and has long recovery times.

Using this laser snoring treatment, one is able to be free of snoring and most causes of sleep apnea without side effects, illness from the CPAP machine, or the risks of surgery.

Comfortable Snoring Treatment

This treatment is simple for the technician or doctor to do and takes only a few minutes. The success rate with this treatment is extremely high. There is virtually no pain and there is little to no recovery time.

The NightLase laser snoring treatment has been tested for years and is based on sound medical practices that have been proven to relieve snoring and all the associated effects. The technicians at Albany Laser and Cosmetic Center are trained by the manufacturer, NightLase, to use this piece of high-tech equipment. Again, because the device is programmed for use, there is no possibility for error. Also, everyone at Albany Laser and Cosmetic is a trained professional, skilled with the use of lasers to treat many complaints and disorders.

Attainable medical help for snoring

Where things like surgery and medicines can come with a hefty price tag, and at times is not covered by insurance, NightLase is an affordable solution to snoring and sleep apnea.  This new technology is the latest in snoring and sleep attenuation technology. It’s one of the most promising, simple, and safe treatments to be developed in years.

Cost of snoring treatment

One session of laser treatment is $500 and three sessions are $1200. The consultation is always free

Acne Treatment

Source: Albany Laser & Cosmetic Centre

Acne Treatment

have you have tried different acne treatments such as oral antibiotics (prescription medication such as minocycline), topical antibiotic creams (salicylic acid, azelaic acid, and glycolic acid), hormonal therapy such as oral contraceptive or even home therapy such as honey masks, over the counter products, but they failed you? We are here to help!

What is acne?

Acne is a common skin disorder that arises when your follicles become plugged with dead skin cells and oil. Acne affects approximately 85% of individuals between 12 to 24 years of age. There is also adult acne, or post-adolescent acne, that occurs after the age of 25. No matter when in life it occurs, acne can be mild, moderate or severe depending on the person.

Mild: Blackheads, whiteheads
Moderate: More intense than mild. With more inflammation (redness, pus, pain), comes a greater risk for scarring, due to the injury to the skin.
Severe: Swollen, painful, fluid-filled cysts and / or large, hard lumps lodged into the skin.
Any type of acne can lead to scars. The pores swell, potentially causing a break in the follicle wall. Shallow lesions are usually minor and heal quickly. But sometimes, if there is a break in the wall of the pore, a deeper lesion is created which can lead to scarring.

Here at Albany Laser & Cosmetic Center we provide a wide variety of treatments and protocols for active acne, controlling acne, and acne scarring.
We recommend coming in for a consultation first, which we find is important. This provides both the patient, Dr. Kamal and/or one of our Medical Aestheticians with an idea of what the best treatment plan would be.

what is New in acne treatments?

Whether you have cystic acne, papules, and whiteheads, acne is worrisome. But there's good news! Several new laser acne treatments are now available in Edmonton. Here, we will discuss laser, Microdermabrasion and Levulan Photodynamic Therapy System. That being said, good skincare and skin hygiene are essential for any long-term acne removal protocol.

Causes of different types of acne

We will not spend a long time discussing the causes of different types of acne. However, we will provide this infographic to give a summary. In summary, we develop acne due to overactive sebaceous glands and less than optimal skin resurfacing (lack of dead skin cells turn over). Therefore, some of us who have these two factors are born with acne-prone skin.

Most of the cases we see at Albany Cosmetic and Laser Center are advanced cases. Most patients are desperate as they saw their family doctor or GP and tried all traditional treatments.

Treatment options at Albany Laser & Cosmetic :

Skincare:

When it comes to treating acne with your daily routine, we recommend using medical or pharmaceutical grade products. This is why we carry the Vivier and ZO. Vivier is a Canadian-based, pharmaceutical skincare company and ZO is a medical-grade skincare line by Dr. Zein Obagi.
From Vivier, we like to offer the Acne Treatment system. This system contains two full-sized pharmaceutical grade products that are effective and easy to use. It has a combination of hexamidine, 2% salicylic acid and 5% benzoyl peroxide to help reduce the frequency and severity of acne breakouts.
From ZO, there is the Acne Prevention and Treatment Program, which carries an exfoliating cleanser, exfoliating polish, complexion renewal pads, and a sulfur masque. It’s a complete line of effective products formulated to treat clogged pores, blackheads, papules and cystic acne. Also, a preventive treatment for acne breakouts.

SilkPeel Dermalinfusion:

SilkPeel Dermalinfusion treatments are an effective way to diminish acne by exfoliating the clogged-up pore and infusing a special serum containing salicylic acid into the skin. The microdermabrasion opening and cleaning the pores allows the skin to better absorb the serum.

Jessner Peel:

This treatment can control acne and soften the scars that come with it. It includes equal parts of salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol. This combination dives into the skin to un-clogged pores while also skimming the surface to erode blackheads and fade surface scars.

Carbon Peel:

Carbon laser peel is an advanced skincare treatment. In recent years, this treatment has gained popularity as a way to deal with oily, acne-occluded skin. This is in part to the publicity from high-profile stars adding it to their skincare routine, as well as the effectiveness of the treatment itself. Utilizing nothing more than a carbon mask and a laser, this peeling procedure can clear the skin of active acne.

Spectra Gold Toning:

If redness is an issue, Spectra Gold Toning is a treatment that can help reduce and manage it. This treatment does not directly destroy the targeted abnormal blood vessels, it merely normalizes them. Gold Toning restores the affected cells surrounding the microvessels to a healthy state.

BLU-U:

This treatment uses a blue light that delivers clearer skin by destroying the acne bacteria. During this treatment, a patient sits in front of the blue light for a few minutes. It’s recommended to schedule 1-2 per week for optimal results. Treatment is painless and is a popular alternative to medications and antibiotics.

Fotona:

Fotona ND Yag:

This laser light safely penetrates the skin effectively to target overactive sebaceous (oil) glands and reduces the risk of developing new acne. The acne laser treatment also accelerates the healing process and stimulates collagen remodeling.

Fotona ER Yag

This treatment is ideal for resurfacing scars. The laser gently vaporizes micron-thin layers of the acne-scared surface to reveal healthy, undamaged skin. It is not to treat active acne, but to treat the scars left by previous acne breakouts.

Fraxel:

Like the Fotona ER Yag treatment, the Fraxel dual laser is not for treating active acne, but ideal for the scarring left behind. It can get rid of deep scars and pigmentation with minimum downtime. Also, it improves skin texture, lessens icepick or boxcar scarring and post-acne hyperpigmentation.
At Albany, we offer a range of different treatments as we understand every situation is different. We want to ensure we can provide the best treatments so you can feel confident in your own skin. Book your free consultation today and start your journey to clear, radiant skin.

Acne treatment in Edmonton
Acne treatment in Edmonton

When your skin cells don't shed correctly, bacteria and sebum build-up and block your pores. Lasers target the bacteria to help remove acne. Further, it helps to reduce any superficial scars and dark pigments. It is important to know that clients on some acne medication (topical or oral medication) with specific active ingredients, such as Accutane and minocycline, should stop taking the medications for up to six months before the treatment. If not, the laser treatment may worsen acne before noticing positive results

What is the recommended treatment protocol?

It depends on the severity of the acne. If you’re experiencing breakouts, Dr. Kamal (Ph.D. in Pharmacy) recommends six treatments every few months. It's necessary to reduce scarring, deep pigmentation to rebalance the skin. Touch-up treatments will stimulate collagen production, prevent acne and make your skin glow.

Will I see any improvements?

Yes, your skin will look clearer and smoother. For those with sun damage and dark spots, you'll notice your skin color will look more balanced. In general, your skin will look brighter, supple and smother.

What laser do you use at Albany?

We have over 10 different laser types and wavelengths. Therefore, we can customize the acne laser treatment according to your acne type, severity and skin type. Some of the most effective lasers we have are Fraxel laser, Dye pulse 532, 585 and ND Yag 1064 laser.

More on Silk Peel for Acne

Microdermabrasion is a skin rejuvenation treatment. It combines exfoliation and suction to remove bacteria. Other impurities include dead skin and excess oil from the skin. Also, Microdermabrasion It's a non-invasive treatment that doesn't use chemicals and helps you attain a clear and bright complexion.

Further, the treatment is ideal for all skin types and colors. It doesn't leave any scars. It helps reduce and get rid of scars! With microdermabrasion, you can get back to your normal activities after the treatment. What this means is, the treatment takes less time to complete. Also, you don’t need any safety recuperation time.

How does Microdermabrasion work?

There are two distinct types of microdermabrasion. The first type involves discharging small crystals into your skin under high pressure. These are aluminum oxide crystals, that contain different elements.

The second type involves using a diamond-tipped wand or a crystal. It has an abrasive tip and gently exfoliates when it's swiped across the skin. The process doesn't release any crystals and it's safe for home use. With this tool, your doctor (or injection certified pharmacists) can adjust the suction level pressure to suit your tolerance. It's best to start with low pressure to prevent bruising.

How many treatments does it take to see results?

A lot of patients need more than one treatment session to get the best results. We recommend one to two sessions spaced two weeks apart. About six to twelve treatments are necessary, which may cost around $1,658.

Benefits of Microdermabrasion for acne treatment

Microdermabrasion can help different acne types. Also, it has several benefits and they include:

Boost circulation and enhance cell function

Microdermabrasion helps boost circulation in the target area. Also, it enhances the function of the cell and boosts the production of elastin and collagen. As a result, it makes skin cells healthier and more resilient.

Improve product results

Circulation increase allows skin products to penetrate deeper into the epidermis for better results.

Fighting Blackheads

Silk Peel is especially effective in removing blackheads. The suction removes the solid oily contents in your pores. And exfoliation eliminates the top of the blackheads. Clogged pores hold debris, which leaves pores open. But when they're unclogged, your pore size will reduce in size.

Safe and effective

This is safer than other available treatments. You may experience redness and tightness after the treatment, but it won't last long. Recovery time is minimal and there are no side effects.

In general, microdermabrasion encourages the production of elastin and collagen. As a result, the treatment helps reduce the appearance of acne scars by increasing the skin's healing process.

More on Blue-U LEVULAN PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY SYSTEM

The Light Levulan Kerastick Treatment is aggressive treatment with long downtime. It's an effective treatment for moderate and cystic acne. Further, the Levulan Photodynamic Therapy System is divided into two processes.

The therapy utilizes the Blue Light Treatment and the Levulan Kerastick topical solution. It emits visible, cool, and safe blue light to help reduce acne.

How does it work?

First, your aesthetician will apply a Levulan Kerastick topical solution on the acne. The solution will make the breakouts more sensitive to light. Your aesthetician will leave the topical solution on for about two hours. Next, the therapy proceeds with a Blue Light Treatment.

The treatment session lasts for 15 minutes. You may feel minimal discomfort due to the nature of the topical solution. But the discomfort normally improves within 24 hours and as soon as the treatment ends.

After the treatment, patients may experience minor reddening. Some will experience mild swelling around the surrounding skin. In general, reddening will reduce one week after the treatment. But swelling will reduce after two days.

Medical studies show that Levulan Kerastick is an effective acne treatment. Your skin will look clear, smooth, supple and radiant within four weeks.

Melasma Treatment

Melasma Treatment

Have you been looking for someone to trust with melasma treatment? We are Edmonton’s #1 clinic for melasma removal. We have helped many patients restore the color of their skin. We have heard many stories of clients describing their despair while dealing with melasma. Melasma often causes social and emotional stress for patients. Melasma removal and melasma treatment are very tricky and harder than other hyperpigmentation issues.

The epidermis holds the secret

The epidermis is the outer layer of skin and is an accumulation of dead cells called the stratum corneum. It is important to point out:

Epithelial layers

  • This is a thin layer of epithelial cells (skin stem cells) between the dermis and epidermis. These epithelial cells multiply to provide, virtually, an unending supply of skin cells (keratinocytes). New keratinocytes push out the old ones and there is a continuous migration for the keratinocytes from the epithelium to the skin surface. We refer to this as skin resurfacing. Melanocytes

  • These pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) are located next to the epithelial layer and provides the pigment color (melanin)to the skin cells and outer skin color. The melanocytes produce packs of pigments and send them to the keratinocytes, so by the time they get to the surface they are filled with the appropriate amount of pigments that give the skin color.

What is your skin type?

There are six known skin types according to the melanocytes activity and sensitivity:

  1. Extremely pale
  2. Pale
  3. Mediterranean
  4. Asian/Hispanic
  5. African brown
  6. Dark African

People with type 1, 2, 5, 6 skin would not usually have melasma. Skin type 4 is the main skin type that suffers from melasma. Melanocytes are very sensitive and some factors such as sun and change of hormones can easily tip the balance of melanocyte levels.

Melasma treatment

We have some good news and bad news. The bad news is that no single treatment or pill can treat melasma. The good news is that we can help you by designing a tailored protocol that takes into account your skin type, melasma trigger and your type of melanin.

How does Laser work?

Melanin pigments absorb the laser energy which will heat and cook the melanin (which will change the chemical structure). Our immune system recognizes that this melanin is not good anymore and will start to get rid of it. Laser can also reset the melanocytes thermostat and restore the balance.

Why it is tricky?

Choosing the wrong laser may results in activating the melanocytes (remember they are very sensitive), this will result in melasma getting worse. Therefore, it is important to choose the right laser, power plus width.

What is Spectra Laser Nanosecond Q-Switched Treatment?

This high-energy laser beam penetrates the target area and heats the melanin within the skin cells (melanin is the pigmentation in our skin and extra melanin is the cause for melasma and pigmentation).

What Laser wavelength does Albany Laser and Cosmetic have?

The wavelength of the Spectra Laser Nanosecond Q-switched comes in four distinct forms: 532 nm, 585nm, 650nm, as well as 1,064 nm in nanosecond pulses (specially designed for melasma treatment and melasma removal).

What Can Spectra Laser Nanosecond Q-Switched treat?

Spectra Laser Nanosecond Q-switched is a mild laser that gives off pulses of energy in nanoseconds to eliminate or reduce skin pigmentation. With Spectra Lasers, fine lines, pigmentation, and textural irregularities can be treated efficiently.

What is the cost of Spectra Laser?

The cost of Spectra Laser Nanosecond Q-switched costs between 200-400 per session. Prices may vary from one location to another and on the size of the target area. How deep the pigment also affects the cost of the treatment. Additionally, if you want to enjoy maximum benefits from the treatment, you will need to go for approximately four to six sessions. The procedure must be spaced three weeks apart.

What to do before Spectra Laser Nanosecond Q-Switched treatment

Avoid exposure to the sun for about four weeks before the treatment. On the day of the procedure, wash exhaustively with soap and do not wear any makeup. Your dermatologist will counsel on what you should expect. This is where you should tell your doctor (or injection certified pharmacists) if you have any history of allergic reactions to topical anesthetic or any medical condition.

Facelift

non-surgical facelift

What is the difference between surgical and non-surgical facelift?

A surgical facelift, as its name indicates, is a full surgery. The patient will be under full anesthesia and have a long recovery time. The results are also non-reversible. It is also costly.

non-surgical facelift has many advantages:

  • No downtime or preparation-the entire procedure takes about 1.5 hours, with no special preparations.
  • More affordable-the cost of the complete treatment is $3000-$4000, compared to the price of the surgical facelift of approximately $25,000
  • Reversible- the client can reverse the results at any time for whatever reason. A particular enzyme injection is enough to dissolve fillers, and threads can be extracted with a minor cut.
  • Safe-new fillers are very safe. There are some rare cases when we have to interfere and dissolve them directly after injections.

The non-surgical facelift employes filler, threading, and Botox to provide more volume to the face,  remove wrinkles and define critical facial lines and feature.

What do we use in the non-surgical facelift?

Fillers

Fillers are often the most important part of any non-surgical facelift. The injection sites are mainly on the upper cheek and around the mouth. The upper cheek injection is to address the Malar atrophy and the nasolabial folds. Filler around the mouth helps with the depressed oral commissure, marionette lines, and lip lines. Filler is often injected in the jawline to help shape the face and give it a higher definition.

Botox

Botox may be injected into two main muscles to help to slim the face, these muscles are the Masseter and the Anguli Oris. Dr. Alhallak Ph.D. is one of the few practitioners who perform Nefertiti facelifts.

Threading

PDO threads are a fairly new technology that helps to lift the face in a way that defies gravity. Fillers are great, but they tend to drop down by time due to their heavyweight. The thread has a special structure with miniature claws that hold on the skin from inside to lift it.

Other facelift technologies

We offer a complete portfolio of energy-based facet lift such as Fotona 4D facelift and Ulthera.

At Albany Laser and Cosmetic Center we provide honest and truthful advice to all of our clients. Our consultation is free, and we work with you to ensure you receive the best results.

Fraxel Laser in Edmonton

Have you been in search of an all-inclusive treatment that helps with all your skin issues such as acne, scars, pigmentation, texture, damaged skin, sun spots, sun damage, enlarged pores, and laxity? Search no more, we have helped thousands of clients with Fraxel Laser acne and skin treatment.

What is the Fraxel Dual Laser?

Fraxel laser keeps the top layer of the skin (stratum corneum) intact without removing it but can reach the underlying skin layers to stimulate collagen production, rejuvenate the skin and provide skin tightening.

The Fraxel laser resurfacing machine uses two wavelengths:

The two different wavelengths target two different lesions, namely wrinkles and pigmentation. The first wavelength uses 1550 nm and targets the dermis for skin tightening and wrinkles reduction, while the second wavelength uses 1927 nm to target the pigmentation lesions. Both wavelengths have water molecules as chromophore that absorbs the photon energy of the laser.

Deep mode = 1550 nm laser

  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars.

Superficial mode = 1927 nm laser

  • Smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin
  • Pigmentation and Melasma treatment
  • Effective treatment of precancerous lesions

What results should I expect?

The treatment downtime for patients is usually between three to seven days. Patients may experience some immediate discomfort in the form of swelling, redness and pinpoint bleeding. Patients may also experience swelling and redness, itching acne and/or cold sores.

Therefore, Fraxel works on skin resurfacing to improve skin texture and reduce wrinkles and fine lines

How to care for skin after Fraxel treatment

Treat the affected area in the same way a sunburn would be treated. Apply moisturizer and ice packs to help make the after-treatment more comfortable. A thin layer of Vaseline may be applied to protect and moisturize the treated skin. Please allow the skin to naturally peel, do not scrub or use exfoliating products. Keep away from any irritants such as harsh detergents and/or coarse cloths.

The first week after Fraxel

During the first week after treatment try to avoid alcohol, sun exposure, intensive exercise, and swimming ( pool water might have some harsh chemicals). Once the peeling process is complete it is fine to use Retin A and glycolic acid products again. We advise applying a PRP mask directly after the treatment to provide the best results with less downtime.

before and after acne scars treatment

Sunblock

Using 30+ SPF sunscreen is very important to minimize long-term side effects. Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going out and reapply another layer directly before going out. We also recommend using a hat during the first two weeks. Ensure moisturizing creams are not too oily. For more information about before and after treatments, please click  here
